Filling definition:

The empowerment which the Holy Spirit gives to a person for the purpose of ministry. Ministry is any work that we do to the Lord or for the Lord.
1. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not new to the New Covenant. It also happens under the Old Covenant.
2. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is something Christians must and should seek to be effective for Christ.
3. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is something Christians must and should seek as that which characterizes our life.
4. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not permanent like Indwelling; sin or dissipation removes it.
5. Being filled with the Holy Spirit can happen to non-Christians.
6. Being filled with the Holy Spirit as that which characterizes your life is what produces godliness.
7. Ordination is a special kind of filling by the Holy Spirit.
8. The sign gifts (including tongues and prophecy) ceased as a part of the filling by the Holy Spirit in the 1st century.

Four reasons that prophecy existed.
1. To usher in the new covenant and out the old covenant.
2. To be a surrogate until the completion of the Canon. God’s all-sufficient word was not yet complete.
3. To establish the church.
4. To protect the church from being led astray by Judaism.

The Work of the Holy Spirit in Filling.

This idea of filling is found throughout the book of Acts. Acts 1:8 empowerment through filling Acts 2:1-4 filled with the HS It takes place along with Indwelling, Acts 4:31-32 Acts 10:44-48 filling along with Indwelling Acts 13:9 indwelling occurs in chapter 9, here now we have filling

1. Being filled with the HS is not new to the New Covenant. It also happens under the Old Covenant.
2. Being filled with the HS is something Christians must and should seek to be effective for Christ.
3. Being filled with the HS is something Christians must and should seek as that which characterizes our life.

Indwelling Definition: The point at which the Holy Spirit comes to take up permanent residence in us as believers.

1. Indwelling happens at the moment I express saving faith in Christ.
2. Indwelling is unique to the New Covenant.
3. Indwelling gives us Divine Help for walking with God and worshipping and serving Him.
4. Indwelling is individual yet corporate.
5. Before the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit dwelt only among His people but not in.
6. Indwelling was made possible because of the justification secured by Christ.
7. Indwelling is not synonymous with filling though we do at times see them together.

Indwelling

1. Indwelling happens the moment that I express saving faith in Christ.
2. It is unique to the new covenant.
3. Indwelling gives us divine help for walking with God and worshipping/serving Him

The Holy Spirit’s work in fulfilling the great commission. Matthew 28:18-20 Parts of fulfilling this commission

1. Making disciples.
2. Baptizing them.
3. Teaching them all that Christ commanded
4. Obeying Christs commandments.

These areas then are where we should be looking for the work of the holy spirit. How is the holy spirit involved in these areas?
1. The work in Conversion.
2. The work in Indwelling.
3. The work in Ordination and Equipping.
4. The work in Sanctification.

This sermon will cover the work in Conversion. Specifically that of conviction leading to conversion.
